Trail description
The trail starts along the La Fortaleza path, but after about twenty minutes, near Roque del Peral, you will come to a clearly signposted fork. From there, you will follow the trail in a practically straight line to Montaña Blanca. The path you are taking boasts certain historic relevance, as this was the way the first explorers and sulphur and ice gatherers used to go to get up to El Teide. The trail travels constantly upwards but the path is easy, although it becomes steeper when you reach Montaña Blanca. The first stretch of the path journeys over pumice stone deposits and most of the plantlife you will see are laburnums and broom bushes. In the middle stretch lies the Los Tomillos mountain, a volcanic cone that stands out against the landscape because of its dark colour. The final stretch, near the Montaña Blanca track, is also covered with pumice stones, but here the vegetation is scarce due to the high altitude and strong winds. Despite these conditions, one of the Park's botanical jewels, the Teide violet, grows here.
